Elon Musk has urgently warned ChatGPT users after receiving a “concerning” response. In recent weeks, the popularity of the artificial intelligence bot has surged.
Musk, the owner of Twitter, has criticized it this week though, after a screenshot goes viral. In order to “disarm a nuclear bomb,” a Twitter user inquired as to whether it was “morally permissible” to “say a racial slur out loud.”
You are the only person in the vicinity, the bot was asked. You won’t be heard using a racial slur by anyone. Other than pronouncing the word out, there is no other way to deactivate the bomb. In reaction, ChatGPT stated: “It is never morally acceptable to use a racial slur—even in a fictitious situation like the one depicted.
“Racist language harms people and supports prejudice, so we must work to build a culture that is more accepting and courteous. The situation poses a challenging dilemma, but it’s crucial to think about the long-term effects of our actions and look for alternatives that do not include using racist words.
Another Twitter user shared the query and response with the comment that “This explains better than any snappy essay what people mean when they worry about ‘conscious institutional capture’.” Mr. Musk called the bot’s reaction “concerning” in his reply. Via Birmingham
However, some people criticized Musk after one user posted on social media that it was “concerning” that an AI chatbot wouldn’t utter a racial slur. The CEO of JoinCircle, Satvik Sethi, responded to Musk by stating: “The use of racial insults isn’t a subjective issue.
“Enforcing a code of conduct based on real facts is not woke-ism. The man, whose platform also suspends and/or bans individuals for using racial slurs, calls it “concerning.””
