Although inventive representation alone cannot create great art, it can enhance already excellent work. The Sundance lineup for this year, which we remotely viewed, was full with stories that stood out for either the way they were told, the themes they dealt with, or both. In Kristen Lovell and Zackary Drucker’s The Stroll, transgender workers described their experiences working in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District in alternatingly funny and horrific detail. In his gripping novel Rotting in the Sun, Sebastian Silva exposes (literally) the casual hypersexuality that permeates some aspects of contemporary homosexual life. And Lisa Cortés’ Little Richard: I Am Everything eloquently and simply explains how the Black & LGBT communities formed the basis of rock and roll. Here are all the noteworthy films that were part of the festival and will be available to you soon.
